Hello Fellow Bloggers,
This week everything seems to be due. I finally got permission from certain people to go ahead on my multimodal. So I plan on taking my pictures soon. I finished my first multimodal which was a poem. I also am continuing on working on my ARP which I seem to be getting done, at an extremely slow pace. This week I plan on going to a Psychology Club event which is about the LGTB and hopefully something will be mentioned about athletes, that I could possibly use in my project.
Have a nice week everyone!!

Surveys and positive feedback!
Hello All,
As this week comes to an end, we continue on our journey to finish our projects. It seems to be extremely stressful with all the due dates coming quickly. I posted my survey on Facebook and it seems to be getting quite a lot of feedback as of today 40 people take it. I also have gotten quite a few emails with women asking me about more information. Also some want to see my final project to find out what my information concluded. I am continuing to send my survey out to more people because the more people the better. I am also working on obtaining permission on my MM #3 and editing my poem which I am using for MM #1.

Projects!
Hello All,
As this weeks come to an end, we know that the beginning of next week the first draft of the ARP is due on duesday! This week I have feel like I have accomplished a lot. I sent out another email to setup another interview. I also worked on multimodal idea. So far the first two are getting better slowly. My one idea is that I am taking two pictures, one of a group of girls in their practice uniforms and the second in street clothes. I was thinking about putting it on a poster and when people look at it, I want them to write down immediately what they first thought when they saw both pictures. The second is a poem that I have been working on called When you look at a softball player! Each day I have been changing it a bit, so that it is appropriate and strongly gets my point across. I am still thinking about what I would like to do for my third project. I am also continuing on my text based research and found quite a few more interesting websites. I also found a few personal stories, that would be nice to reference when I am writing my ARP.
Have a nice weekend!

Facebook Observation
Hello All,
So as I have mentioned in my last blog, I was doing a facebook observation about coming out day 2010. Which was on Tuesday! On Wednesday I read a few articles about how in certain areas so many as 30 men came out and now are living the life that they feel best suites them. Congratulations to all who braved Coming Out Day 2010. I also learned something interesting. New gang initiations are to kill homosexuals, men mainly in New York City. So I give a lot of credit to those men who came out especially in the New York area. Although, this gang initiations are focusing on men, some women are killed as well. They said that this current gang might take it to the next level and killing homosexuals may start on a regular basis. Just a little information that I thought was interesting. So since Tuesday was the official United States wide Coming Out Day, the Human Rights Campaigned asked everyone; heterosexual and homosexual to donate their status for just one day. So that it shows awareness to people everywhere. It surprised me on how little a number decided to do this, either they are not aware of how important it was or they just did not care.
Out of the 778 friends that I have on facebook only 11 people posted about national coming out day and that appalled me. Only three of them were female- student athletes, no males, and one trans-gender posted it. And it is not like no one knew about it because it was posted all over facebook for days. The thing that really gets me is that homosexuals that I know are out in the open, did not do anything about it. If they can not stand up for people like themselves, then why should heterosexuals stand up for the homosexuals. I mean yes it is just a facebook posting, but still it was an important one.

Coming Out Day
Hello All,
As October 10th and 11th is the official "coming out" day, it does not necessarily mean that a person has to come out today. I am actually conducting an experiment on facebook. To support the cause the friends of facebook are asked to like the Human Rights Campaign and to ask something specific to your status in support of coming out day. As these next two days approach us I am going to heavily monitor facebook to see how many people or friends of mine I should say are going to post this. To post this on your status it does not mean that you have to be a homosexual, but in general a supportive of same sex love. I plan to monitor by checking the news feed that pops up on my facebook and write down who the person is that posted it up on there status. This actually can help my project, cause posting this shows that either 1. people are in support of same sex love, or 1. people that are homosexuals care about others who are now coming out of the closet and are supporting them. It will also show how many females to males post it, athletes to non athletes who post it, and heterosexuals to homosexuals that post it. Please help me fellow bloggers and log on to facebook and find the Human Rights campaign site and do this. It is for a great cause!
Hope you all had a nice weekend!

The First Week of October
Hello All,
Happy first week of October! So as we start this week I thought I would begin sending out emails to the people that I would like to interview. I have talked to a few people already in regards to the interview and they have seemed very excited. As I wait for responses back, I am thinking about adding more questions. Also, I decided to become more organized because I have noticed organization is the key. Without being organized I have become more and more stressed with this project. As I have gotten a folder with sub-folders and put all my papers and information together, I have learned a lot of stress has been lifted off my shoulders. What is everyone else doing for organization?
Have a great week!!!!

Hello All,
So thankful that I have finished my annotative bibliography. But on the bright side, while printing out the articles that I planned on using I found two of the most helpful tools. I found an amazing book called Strong Women, Deep Closets: Lesbians and Homophobia in Sports. I suggest that if anyone is truly interested in my research to read this book. A few articles that I have read about my research mention this book,so I read an overview of this book and it is a must have for my research. I am actually working on locating it in a library. Also, I found another amazing website, with a similar interest in what I plan on doing for my research project. It gave me copious amount more articles and books to look at.

Thank you to the University of Minnesota for such a fantastic website. Hope you all had a great weekend.
Bests!

Updates
Proposals were due and I still have a bit to fix before it gets approved. I continue with my every day research and am still thinking about who I want to interview. Student athletes are the most important to interview, but I also want to interview students who are always around the student athletes as well. I also want to talk to coaches.

Hialeah- The Second Cuba
Jane Doe Interview of Hialeah
When I asked Jane Doe about the actually meaning of Hialeah which was given the Seminoles, she did know the actually meaning. The Seminole interpretation of Hialeah was the High Prairie. As I have heard and read that some parts of Hialeah are not safe, I was quite interested. Asking Jane she tells me that it depends where you live. The city is kind of divided into two parts; the east and west side. The west side is where all the crime is and the east being the more peaceful side. If you ever need to find a cop Jane says that they are always driving around or sitting in Dunkin Donuts. So they are somewhat visible at all times. When driving through Hialeah I have noticed that most people have gates with extremely pointy tops. It seems that they are for safety measures to keep unwanted people out. Since Hialeah holds the rank of Florida’s fifth largest city, transit, schools, and hospitals come into question. Is there enough schools, transportation, and hospitals to accommodate all the people that live there? She believes that there is because only the old people use the buses and each house has at least one car. In my opinion for all the people that live there, I truly believe that there should be more hospitals available because even in cities that are less populated hospitals are always an issue. Looking at polls it seems that people live together more then they live alone and Jane said it had to do with the Cuban heritage, which Hialeah was like the second Cuba. My most interesting finding was the Hialeah was home to a Santeria Church. To me that is quite interesting because I never have known about a city having a Santeria church and people being okay with it in their neighborhood. Jane also said that it is a necessity to speak Spanish in Hialeah because you will find very few people that will understand exactly what you are saying. In conducting this interview I have found out numerous new facts about Hialeah and I greatly appreciate Jane for taking time out and sitting down for this interview.

Joan Arc Interview
Spark notes and websites that give you a summary and take away the tremendous detail that you would receive when actually reading the book was a curious interest to me. When asked Joan says that it depends how you use it, it does not necessarily take away from reading the actual book. Reading the book and using spark notes to refresh your memory seems to be okay. In my opinion when reading the spark notes compared to reading the book, many details are left out and the reader may miss out on something amazing. She does speak three different languages which was extremely interesting; English everywhere, Spanish to her mother, and Portuguese to her father. She enjoys writing and reading both equally and loves to write short stories. Reading she says gives views into people’s lives whether they are real or make believe characters. She enjoys reading romance books because she gets wrapped up into different worlds. I feel like in this section we are quite alike because when reading romance you get drawn into the book and sometimes it is impossible to just put the book down. She does not have a favorite part about High school English because she did not read that much and it seems to me that she loves to read and she was quite disappointed. Joan did not really teach reading or writing to other students, until she reached the college level as she is now a tutor in the Writing Center. However, she has no remembrance when she started reading, but that is okay because most people do not. She was very enthusiastic about answering all my questions and was very open. I greatly appreciate the time that she gave me to ask these questions and they will be helpful to my project in the future.

Research
As I continue the research of my project I am getting extremely excited about my project. All the information that I have found seems to be very helpful. I also have casually talked to athletes about my project and numerous of them said they would be happy to help. Below are some very interesting links, that I would find helpful to my project. The first one from EBSCO host was super interesting to me. They now have books and articles on how to help your child with the issue of homosexuality especially if they have teammates.

The beginning
My thought process of ideas for my research project
-Homosexuality in women sports
- biological, environmental.....
- Why is there more homosexuals in softball than other sports
- women sports specifically (college)
- Why- different personality traits
- Can a coach be an influence in homosexuality
- Why does it seem that heterosexual girls change paths our of no where?
- Why does it happen?
- Is it environmental, pressure to be accepted.....
-Do stereotypes draw people away?
- Homosexuality: from an athlete's perspective vs. a non athlete perspective.
***NO REAL NAMES WILL BE USED IN THIS PROJECT
- Why are athletes more open to homosexuality then non-athletes?
